What to Know When Ordering Embossing

You pull the card out of the envelope… and there it is. All official-looking, with embossed account number and name. Those shiny raised numbers and letters give this card a feel of importance, right? Embossing is an easy feature to add on to your card, but there are some steps that you will need to be aware of when designing your card to make sure your project looks the best it can in the end.

Here is a simple checklist of what to be aware of when adding embossing to your card:
  • The embossing font is OCR
  • Embossing needs to be at least 1/4″ from the edges of the card.
  • One line in 18 point type and up to three lines in 9 point type
  • 18 point line up to 19 characters, including spaces
  • 9 point lines up to 28 characters, including spaces
  • Numbers and uppercase characters only
  • No special characters ( ! @ # $ % ^ & * ? > < } { ] [ + _ = – )
  • Avoid periods and commas where possible
  • Type will be aligned on the left only.
  • Letters can be tipped (colored) with Silver, Gold, White or Black
  • Embossing pushes the form through the card from the back to the front. It will distort any text on the back of the card in the area of the embossing. Do not place any text in the embossing area.
  • We will place a sequential number in very small type on the back of the card. This is called a control number. We need this number to easily identify cards damaged in the production process and replace them. This ensures 100% product delivery.
